As my time at the Shrine winds down (I leave tomorrow!), I reflect on the amazing experience I had here, and specifically of recently connecting with our 20s/30s Young Adults Ministry leader, Erin Murphy, with whom I organized and facilitated a retreat on Saturday. Earlier in July, we sat down and thought up the idea of a short, summer day retreat. The idea was pretty big for a new director and an intern, but as the retreat finally arrived, I am very happy to report it went very well!

Being a part of the process that produced this retreat, from meetings regarding the schedule to drawing up handouts, Erin allowed me an active role in the preparation. We also enlisted the help of Father Joe Quinn, who was absolutely invaluable and added an amazing element to the retreat. Brother Fandry also assisted us in his knowledge of the Gospel and understanding of life as a 20 something in the Catholic Church. The retreat was held at St. Anthony Shrine and attended by members of our 20s/30s catholic community. Retreat participants enjoyed listening to Father Joe talk about St. Francis and St. Clare, his experience, and Franciscan values as well as discuss this Sunday’s Gospel and talk about who God is to us all. The day was closed with an amazing prayer service in the Friar’s chapel facilitated by Father Joe. It was a wonderful chance to meet new friends, brothers, and siblings in Christ. I count myself lucky to have been a part of it.
